Artwork

I am a part-time artist currently working in watercolor, colored pencil, and graphite pencil.  I live in rural New Hampshire, where the beautiful countryside inspires me to create a range of work from atmospheric pastoral scenes to vibrant floral pieces.  The human form is also a source of creative inspiration that drives me to work in portraiture.  With each piece, my primary goal is to realistically convey a sense of drama and atmosphere through the interplay of shadow and light.  In essence, I hope that my art emotionally transports the viewer to a place of magic and beauty.

Background

My father, who is also an artist, encouraged me to draw and paint when I was very young.  He provided me with pencils, paper, oil paints, palettes and brushes.  These tools allowed me to explore my own creative voice.  I quickly fell in love with the process of working through the developmental stages of a work of art, from concept to a fully-realized expression of my thoughts and feelings.

Despite being drawn to art from an early age, I never pursued it professionally.  Life took me in a different direction and today I work full-time in psychiatric research.  However, drawing and painting has always remained in the background of my busy life.  I've made every effort possible to constantly improve my art skills.  When I need to counterbalance the hustle and bustle of life, I always find myself pulled back into the studio to immerse myself into that wonderful meditative creative process.

For as long as I can remember, art has been much more than just a hobby.  It's a very important and integral part of my life.  Continuing to draw and paint over the years has resulted in a slow and steady development and refinement of my artistic vision, abilities and body of work.  Today, I am at a point in my artistic development where I would like to share my favorite recent artwork with others.
